Complementary Medicine/Articles

Dr. Robert Atkins was one of the foremost authorities in complementary medicine until his sudden death in 2003.

After years of practicing conventional medicine he realized that he had better success when using more natural nutritional therapies rather than drugs and surgical approaches as the primary tools in his arsenal.

He often said conventional medicine shines in life and death situations when emergency treatment is needed but reliance on prescription medicines for chronic illnesses left a lot to be desired.

In the mid 1970’s after the success of Dr. Atkins’ Diet Revolution he began a quest that did not end until his death. Believing  in “Above all, first do no harm” from the Hippocratic oath he spent the next decades of his life developing and refining the nutritional therapies he offered at the Atkins Center for Complementary Medicine.

He combined alternative treatments, personalized dietary changes based on the Atkins Lifestyle and supplement programs with the diagnostic approaches of conventional medicine. This system allowed him to offer patients suffering with a variety of chronic conditions an optimum blend of the healing arts, fighting disease by creating health while minimizing exposure to excessive drug therapies.

This section will be dedicated to bringing his knowledge and expertise to healthcare providers as well as to consumers looking for choices beyond the one-size-fits-all approach most of us are offered.
